BP oil leak has chance of being stopped for hurricanes come in by static kill

The long-awaited "static kill" was scheduled to begin on BP's blown out Macondo well Monday. Bonnie delayed the static kill from happening about one week until static kill was done on day 100 of the Gulf of Mexico 2010 oil spill. The "bottom kill" is scheduled to happen after the static kill puts mud to the well to stop it. This is the worst oil spill that has occurred in the U.S. and prepared kills should be enough to stop it. Post resource - Static kill could seal BP oil leak before peak hurricane season by Personal Money Store.

Oil spill cap helps static kill

The BP oil spill was designed to stop for a while when an oil spill cap was placed on the well for a temporary amount of time. The New York Times reports that an earlier effort to seal the well comparable to the static kill, using much of the same equipment, failed over the Memorial Day weekend. The oil that was coming out of the well was stronger than the mud being pumped into it which is why "top kill" failed to work. Since the flow has stopped with the oil spill cap, the static kill shouldn't have that exact same problem.

Static kill leads to bottom kill

Mud is going to be pumped to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico where the original preventer failed to work the first time. The New Orleans Times Picayune reports that right now on standby are 12,000 barrels of mud. Stronger mud can be used for the bottom will that has about 37,000 barrels waiting to be pumped in. As mud is being pumped, BP crews will observe pressure inside the well. A "static condition" within the well is what we're looking for with the pressure. The final 100 feet of relief well should be drilled following the kills are complete.

Finishing before a hurricane hits

The kills are supposed to be done before August is over. BP plans on doing both the kills, reports the Associated Times, despite the fact that a relief well is almost finished. The relief well would do better after a static kill. BP wants this finished and also the relief well might not work as planned. There are threats of hurricanes coming which is one more reason why it needs to get finished so soon. Between mid-August and late October you will find bound to be a bit of hurricanes while is why Federal Officials hope BP will finish before then.
